John Zuidhof

I joined the AHCS board in September, 2015.  I will also be serving on the Governance and Finance committees.  This is my 38 year of teaching.  Presently I am serving as the principal of Agassiz Christian School, a position that started when I moved to Agassiz in 2002.  Throughout my teaching career I have taught music.  Together with Jacquie (my wife) we've participated in the Olive Branch Dinners since 2008.  You might also find me tending the gardens at South Garden Vacation Rental, a business we have operated since 2003.

Tom is in his seventh year as a Board member and has been Chair for two of those.

Tom is a retired teacher and school administrator who had a 33 year teaching career, the last 13 of which were spent in Agassiz.  He has a BA from UBC and a MEd from SFU.  He has a strong desire to be involved with AHCS and its delivery of social services in Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs.

Since his retirement, Tom has been an active volunteer in the community.  This has included Agassiz Speedway, the Kent Agricultural Advisory Committee and the Citizens Advisory Committee for Kent Institution.

Barb Janzen
Past Chairperson

Barb joined the board in 2009 and is serving her 4th two year  term.  Barb moved from Chilliwack to Harrison Hot Springs in 1993 and is active in her community, including volunteer work with  the Olive Branch Community Meal  team,  Agassiz Fall Fair, Adopt a Road and other projects such as  spearheading the fundraising and construction of the Harrison school playground.

Barb has her CAIB  (Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker)  designation and has been employed  with  Hub International Barton Insurance for over 20 years in roles including branch management  and  Commercial Account Executive.  Barb has been married to Dave for over 25 years and they have two children in their 20’s.

Sheila Robertson

Sheila was appointed to the Board of Directors in September 2007 and is now serving her 9th year as a director.

Sheila is from Bathurst New Brunswick.  Married into the military and lived in various locations across Canada and five years in Europe. Having travelled in many countries including Russia, experienced the many cultures during her travels including taking part in the wine harvest with the locals in Germany.

Sheila now resides in Agassiz and has for the past 24 years. Sheila has volunteered with Agassiz Harrison Community Services on various occasions for the past 22 years.  Her involvement with Agassiz Harrison Community Services is as follows : Christmas hamper helper and coordinator 10 years, and is currently volunteering as  the Friendly Phone Coordinator for the past 18 yrs. Also a member of the Senior Peer Counsellors ( Senior peer Support) 14 years. 

Sheila is also an active member of the Agassiz Community Recreation and Cultural Centre for 13 years.

Phyllis Stenson

Now retired, Phyllis was the former Executive Director of the Harrison Festival Society, having managed 33 festivals in Harrison Hot Springs.  She has vast experience with non-profit organizations and has chaired and participated on several provincial, national and local boards. Phyllis was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2006 from UFV for her work in the community.

Jennifer Todd

Jennifer is serving her first term on the Board of Directors. She is a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with a Masters in Counselling Psychology. She has worked for over twenty-five years providing counselling in various community, mental health, hospital and educational settings throughout Alberta and BC. She has volunteered extensively with seniors, youth organizations, health and wellness, sport and recreation events. She resides in Harrison Hot Springs, while working in private practice. She has been active with the Harrison Yacht Club, the Harrison Festival Society and various community events based on a passion for strengthening the community.
