I joined the AHCS board in September 2015. I served as an educator (teacher and principal) for 39 years. Retiring in June 2017, allowed me more time with grandchildren and in other volunteer capacities.
Together with Jacquie, my wife, we’ve participated in the Olive Branch Dinners since 2008. You might also find me tending the gardens at South Garden Vacation Rental, a business we have operated since 2003.
Vice Board Chair
Tom Walker is serving his second term on the Board of Directors. Tom is a retired Business Executive with more than 35 years of global healthcare industry leadership. He has expertise in corporate governance, strategic planning, product development, sales and marketing, and operational management. Tom has held senior management positions with Eli Lilly (Toronto, ON and Seattle, WA), Cardinal Health (San Diego, CA) and AGFA HealthCare (Waterloo, ON). He has also held several directorship positions throughout his career.
Tom lives with his wife Vivian in Harrison Hot Springs where they were married 42 years ago. They have two sons, Luke, who lives in Oahu with his wife Aylish and Tom’s grandson Richard, and Ben, who lives in Waterloo, Ontario.
Katrina joined the Board of Directors in 2019. She has a wide range of experience working with children and youth in child care and education. She now works as an inclusive education teacher in School District 78 – Fraser Cascade. Katrina completed her Bachelor of Education as well as Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care at the University of the Fraser Valley. Agassiz has been home to Katrina since early childhood.
Darcy Striker is serving his second term on the Board of Directors. Lived in Agassiz since 1964. Darcy is working at Lordco since 1989, managing the Agassiz store since 1995.
Tom is in his twelfth year as a Board member and has been Chair or Acting Chair for five of those years. Tom is a retired teacher and school administrator who had a 33-year teaching career, the last 13 of which were spent in Agassiz.
Tom has a BA from UBC and a MEd from SFU. He has a strong desire to be involved with AHCSS and its delivery of social services in Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs. Since his retirement, Tom has been an active volunteer in the community. This has included Agassiz Speedway, the Kent Agricultural Advisory Committee and the Citizens Advisory Committee for Kent Institution.
Judith joined the Board of Directors in September 2022. She had a 34 year career at Simon Fraser University, initially as a professor in Criminology followed by over twenty years as a Vice President. In that role she acquired extensive financial, management and governance experience. After stepping down from full-time work in 2015 she spent six years as a consultant in the post secondary system. Judith lives in Harrison Hot Springs with her husband Colin and their dog Saffy.
Dr. Nicolette Joosting
Dr. Nicolette Joosting moved to Harrison Hot Springs from Vancouver a few years ago. Her time is split between veterinary medical practice and several volunteer activities within the community.
